Our Ambassador
Iain Lindsay, British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain
I arrived here just after the start of Ramadan.
So I would like to say Ramadan Mubarak to you and wish you and your families a happy and peaceful Ramadan.
My family and I are delighted to be here. To those whom we have met thus far I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ for making us feel so welcome.
The United Kingdom and Bahrain are long-standing and close friends.
Indeed, many of the people I have met at the majaalis in recent evenings have remarked upon the close and friendly ties between Bahrain and the UK, saying that they feel the UK is a ‘home from home’. That’s great to hear.
I, with the team here at the Embassy, look forward to contributing to the further development of our very warm bilateral relations.
I have already visited the UK Maritime Component Command in Juffair, to familiarise myself with this important maritime security operation, and will be visiting this week the RAF operation here. The presence of both in Bahrain reflects the closeness of our bilateral ties.
I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the contribution which UK servicemen and women in Bahrain make to the security of the region and thus to the security of the UK.
To the large and vibrant British community in Bahrain who make such an important contribution to Bahrain’s development I would like to say a particularly warm ‘hello’.
I look forward to developing close ties with the various clubs and organisations in the community.
I firmly believe that the relationship between an Embassy and the British community should be a strong one.
I look forward to supporting you and hope that I can count on your support.
And British business can count on my support and that of the UK Trade and Investment team in the Embassy in accessing commercial opportunities in Bahrain. In that regard I look forward to working closely with the Bahrain Britain Business Forum.
So it’s great to be here, and I look forward to meeting many more Bahrainis and Brits over the coming weeks.
Thank you and Ramadan Kareem.
