Foreign Secretary brings foreign policy home (23/07/2009)
Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, travelled to Cardiff on 23 July. In the sidelines of a regional Cabinet meeting he met volunteer workers and underlined the Government's support for Africa and meeting the Millenium Development Goals.
David Miliband was met by First Minister, Rt Hon Rhodri Morgan AM at The Senedd, the Welsh National Assembly building.
At an event at The Senedd, David Miliband met Judith Brodie, the Director of VSO UK and volunteers from the International Learning Opportunities (ILO) scheme. The event was an opportunity to share experiences of working in Africa.
Two Welsh members of the British Lions team also attended and recalled their visits to townships and schools during their tour in South Africa.
The Foreign Secretary underlined the Government's support for Africa and the importance of achieving the Millenium Development Goals.
This afternoon the Foreign Secretary hosted a Q&A session with young Welsh Pakistanis, Somalis, Yemenis and Bangladeshis.
